Principal's Welcome2013 Principal’s message.
Welcome to Mansfield Primary School. On behalf of the staff, students and parents of the Mansfield community, we welcome you to our school. You might be interested to know that this is my second year as Principal at the school, after being Principal at Glen Waverley Primary School and Albany Rise Primary School in Melbourne. I took up my current appointment at the beginning of Term 4, 2011. One of my goals since being appointed, has been to maximise the learning opportunities for each and every student enrolled here at Mansfield Primary School. As a school we aim to develop strong links with our broader community. Please feel free to contact either myself, the school’s office manager, Mrs Joan Watt, or my Assistant Principal, Mrs Hazel Bell, if there is any issue you want clarified. We have a strong leadership team in place with Mrs Annette Morgan leading the Level 1 & 2 team, Mrs Julie McInnes, leading the Level 3 & 4 team and Mrs Catherine Johnstone leading the 5 & 6 team. Mrs Hazel Bell oversees our Curriculum. Our leadership team will provide your child with the very best opportunities to ensure a high quality education. I’d also like to take the liberty of encouraging you to become involved in the school as much as possible. I’ve long held the view that local schools are “owned” by local communities. I will be doing everything possible to make sure you have a great school, of which you can feel very proud. If you are a prospective parent of a new Prep student or the parent of a child due to commence at Mansfield Primary School for the first time this year or next year, you are invited to submit an “Application for Enrolment” form as soon as possible. School Tours are every Tuesday commencing at 10:00a.m Mansfield Primary School is undergoing a transformation into a new and exciting educational learning centre for the Mansfield community. We have just completed a full review of the school throughout 2012 and developed a new School Strategic Plan. We have also been fortunate to receive a State Government grant of $77,000 that will assist with building improvements We have three large playgrounds for students, a safe grassed area, numerous hard court surfaces and other courts for children to play on. Our “Resources Committee” will examine the overall school site throughout this year to develop a more strategic approach to the development of the site. Our large multi-purpose undercover outdoor facility enables regular Physical Education classes to be conducted in safe surroundings. Assemblies also take place each alternate Friday afternoon in our hall. Parents are always welcome to attend and help celebrate students’ achievements at Assembly. Our Curriculum is managed by a highly experienced dedicated leader who oversees the development of the curriculum and ensures every child’s learning is managed carefully. We report regularly to parents in both June and December. We also conduct the University of New South Wales competitions and all students in Year 3 & Year 5 sit the NAPLAN. As part of the introduction to our school, we offer a Transition Program for all new Preps starting at the school. The Transition Program culminates in a Parent Information Night in November/December. Details about the Transition program and Information Night will be published later in the year on this Website. Throughout 2013 further implementation will occur around our three agreed whole school values, based on our core value of RESPECT. Focussing on RESPECT is integral to individual and community harmony. The “Triple R” theme is applied throughout the school in all grades and is expected in the way the children, parents and staff behave. The three “R’s” RESPECT for self. RESPECT for others. RESPECT for property and the environment. RESPECT is one of our Australian National School values which is the cornerstone for all those involved in Mansfield Primary School. In all that we do at Mansfield Primary School our focus is on celebrating achievement, improvement and success in a respectful environment which is at the heart of the Mansfield community.
