Grade 3/4 Beechworth Excursion
15/6/2018
During term two the 3/4 unit has been taking a look at our local history, with a particular focus on bushrangers. After sharing their varied projects with the school community as part of Education week all 5 classes took an excursion to Beechworth where they delved further into the regions history and learned more about the Kelly Gang.
Split into 4 groups the 3/4s were hosted at the Bourke Museum, The Kelly Vault, The Telegraph Station and The Beechworth Courthouse. At the courthouse students were given roles to play in a re-enactment of Ned Kelly's trial which was held in the Beechworth Courthouse after the police shooting at Stringy Bark Creek in 1880. The students came away from the experience with a greater understanding of our local history, inspired, happy and a probably more than a little tired. 23/1/2020 02:57:37 am
What's lacking about the curriculum that we have nowadays is the fact that kids are not oriented with the importance of local history anymore. It seems like they are longer interested with whatever happened before because it is part of the past. That's why when you said that your students seemed to be interested to know more details about this thing, I was really happy to see it. At least, there are still students who are out to do more and learn more! 27/5/2022 09:32:24 pm
