During our Poetry unit, 34A used The Black Book of Colours as a mentor text to model our own writing off.
In the book, a blind boy describes what each colour is to him using senses other than sight. We worked on this concept and the use of similes to then create our own colour poems. Philip Manoglou Brown feels like a scary bear. Red sounds like a fire breathing dragon burning houses. Black feels like a school bag. Yellow sounds like a gold coin hitting the floor. Green tastes like a sour apple. Red feels like a red grape and apple. Brown tastes like chocolate melting on your tongue. Grey feels like clouds covering the sky. Derek Beekman Dark, dark green is like swampy water. Pink feels like a pigs skin. Dark yellow tastes like refreshing lemonade. Dark purple tastes like lavender icecream. Navy blue feels like soft school jumpers. Scout Crawford Red is the taste of a sour raspberry and smells like a beautiful rose. Orange is like the sun beaming on my forehead. Yellow is as bitter as lemon juice fizzing sourly in your mouth. Green smells like fresh cut grass swaying in the cool breeze. Blue is as dark as the night sky falling above you. Purple smells like sweet lavender sitting n a small, watery jug. Pink tastes like the ripest strawberry laying on a stem. Black feels like a blindfold covering your face. Aqua is the taste of fresh mint in a hot tea. Grey is liken rain clouds pouring out tears of water. Summer Kipping Purple smells like lovely lavender. Pink is like the sweet, juicy lollies. Green is like luxurious cut grass. Red is blood running down my scraped knee. Black is like the cold winter night. Dark green is like the salty chlorine. Yellow is like a chirping bird. Ruby Krol Yellow tastes like a yummy banana. Blue is like the sky on a sunny day. Black is like the lovely night sky. Brown is like stinky poop. Red tastes like a yummy, bright red apple. Red is like blood dropping from my scraped knee. Blue tastes like a delicious blueberry. Leo Crockett Light pink and blue reminds me of the sweet taste of fairy floss. Purple is like the juicy taste of blackcurrant and smells as sweet as lavender. Red is like how much my mum and dad loves my brothers and me, and looks like poppy leaves. Blue sounds like waves crashing on the rock at the seashore and is one of my favourite colours. Green is like fluffy moss on a roack. Pink is like sweet icing on a cupcake and how I feel happy when mum and dad give me hugs. Talia Barden Yellow is like the silky sand squishing between your toes on a summers afternoon. Blue is like splashing waves crashing and clamming into rocks on a fresh summers morning. Green is like the perfectly cut grass in spring. Brown is like a hot chocolate freshly made on an early winters morning. Millie Young Red is like a ripe juicy strawberry on a leaf. Orange is like an orange on a branch. Yellow is as bright as the sun. Green is like the smell of fresh grass. Blue is like the fresh smelling air. Pink is like the rose growing in your garden. Cody Mennen Yellow tastes like mustard in a hot dog on my birthday. Pink tastes like fairy floss from the fair. Brown and yellow tastes like a banana icecream with chocolate topping. Yellow and white tastes like buttered popcorn at the movies. Vaughan Olver Yellow tastes tangy and bitter like an old lemon. Red feels warm like my mum’s love. Pink smells sweet like fairy floss that has just been made. Blue sounds like the ocean waves crashing on the seashore. Genesis Petersen Red you taste as bitter as a tiny, unripe strawberry. Black you feel like a blindfold on my eyes that’s used for a pin the tail on the donkey game. Orange you feel like a rough oranges skin. Brown you taste like a warm hot chocolate we would drink on a cold winters morning. Yellow you feel like a gooey Oobleck slime. Violet you smell like fresh lavender. Green you taste like a fresh and sour lime picked straight off the tree. Indigo you taste as sweet as a hubba-bubba we can chew with ease. Blue you feel as cold as winter midnight breeze. Josh Brackman The colour green feels like the tropical environment where the tigers roar and the beasts claw. The colour brings happiness, especially in spring so green is the way for the kids all day. Orange feels like the warmth against my legs from the fire. Gold is like the wonderful taste of perfectly cooked pancakes. Blue is like the smell of wonderful, ripe blueberries. Yellow tastes like the jaw dropping taste of buttered popcorn at the movies. Josh How Neon pink is as soft as a pillow. Pale green is as rough as a desert bush. White is as fluffy as sheep wool. Yellow tastes like Mountain Dew. Emerald is as deep as a big, dark, haunted forest. Blue is like the sun beating on my skin. Deep orange is like an astonishing sunset. Aqua is like the smooth sea. Red is as hot as lava. Bright blue is like the colour my hair is going to be. Eve Chandler Green you’re as sour as a small lime, Hanging on a tree for a very long time. Dark green you’re as rough as a tangled vine, Swinging slowly in the sunshine. Dark blue is as dark as the midnight sky, But smells like the salty water crashing by. Yellow tastes like a bitter lemon, And when you bite into it you feel like you’re in heaven. Brown tastes like coffee pouring into a mug, Then you go crazy for a hug. These are all great colours I’ll tell you now, If you want to write a poem then I’ll show you how. Billy Lockhart White is harmless like yang. Black is like the taste of charcoal. Green feels like slime – gooey and yuck! Erin Lunam Blue you smell like blueberry pie, waiting in the oven for me to pass by. Lime you feel like ooey gooey slime, waiting in the shop for someone to buy. Yellow you’re as hard as cheese, just waiting for a mouse to nibble with ease. Aqua you’re as blue as the waves, crashing by on the rocks and on the sand like a musical band. Gold you’re as royal as a queen in her castle, sorting her mail and finds a big parcel. Black you’re as dark as an evil witch, flying in the air with a cat named Stitch. Karryk Hastings Yellow is as shiny as the sun and as sour as Mountain Dew. Black is like the night sky and sounds like a cat going “mow”. Pink is as pretty as fairy floss just like a summer sunset. Red is like fire lighting up the night sky. Blue is like the ocean waves crashing on the shore. Jesse Murphy Purple tastes like lollies on Halloween. Pink tastes like sweet fairy floss. Rainbow feels fluffy like a unicorn. Orange tastes like oranges. Matilda Leon Red is like the taste of juicy watermelon. I hate when I find it runny on my leg. Orange is like the sun beaming on my head. I like it when I hear a crunching sound underneath my feet, it tells me it’s Autumn. Yzellow is like sour lemon fizzing in my mouth. Green is as fresh as a ripe lime. It feels soft underneath my feet. Blue is as cold as water from the ocean running down my face. It’s refreshing after a hot day. Purple is like sweet lavender in my mouth, making its way to my stomach. Pink is as yummy as a raspberry trying to not get rid of the taste. Black feels like a blindfold on my face. I love black, it’s all I can see. Lillian Currie Pink you taste like yummy icing on a cupcake. Purple you smell like lavender. Light brown you are like a surprise in a parcel. Green you smell like refreshing mint leaves. Violet you are like a nice breeze on a summer night. Black you are like a hug from mum when her hair tickles my face. Orange you are like Halloween candy. Cream you are like drinking lemonade on a hot summer night. Red is like a hug from dad in winter to keep me warm. Kyle Chow Red tastes like a juicy watermelon. Blue is like the waves crashing in the sea. Pink tastes like ice cream frosting. Green smells like grass been cut. Yellow is like the sun beating on me. Indi Lindbom Faded blue is like cuddling a soft blanket around my shoulders. Red is like hugging my sister when she is sad. Green is like grass which has been cut. White is like clouds covering the blue sky during the day. Blair Quaine Silver is like a knight in shining armour saving a damsel in distress. Light purple smells like lavender. Dark pink is like frosting on a chocolate cake. White is like the clouds gathering to rain. Red is like a delicious strawberry cake ready to be cut. Black is like a dark, dark creepy lake. Orange is like a tiger snake slithering by. Dark purple is like grapes on a vine so sour and delicious and really divine. Green you’re as rough as the ground with all the leaves around. Pink you’re as beautiful as a butterfly when they fly by. Yellow you’re like a delicious lemon when you bite into it you feel like you’re in heaven.
